He Is Taking Over My Blog And My House

1 Oct

Here are some pictures from the last month or two that haven’t made it onto the blog because they were not related to our trip or the piano or the crib pads. To start us off, here is Dave relaxing in the bath with his neurotic lifeguard nearby. If you come visit, be sure not to let Tom in the room when you shower because he is super annoying.

Here are his legs after his six-month shots.

I’m fine, really.

IMG_2493

I had him try on this dinosaur costume to see if there was any chance it would fit on Halloween. Nope!

The pack ‘n’ play is back out! Seeing him play in it reminds me so much of baby Robert.

How the mighty have fallen.

On a day with nice weather I opened the back door in our dining room and realized the neighbor’s dog has just enough space to stick his whole head between the wall and the fence. Tom was sure surprised to see a big dog head practically touching the back door. By the time I got the camera the dog had gone into its house. But Tom’s fur was still puffy!

Here is one of his new bow ties from OhSweetHome. You can see Davy was in a very playful mood:

Here he is ready to try green beans for the first time. I added butter and garlic and they were not great but he seemed to like them, just like his dad. Although his dad tasted these ones and thought they were terrible.

Baby’s First Gig

16 Sep

Recently David modeled a line of baby clothing designed and hand-made by my talented cousin Trish in San Diego. She was getting ready to launch her boy merchandise in her Etsy shop when we were visiting a couple weeks ago, and asked if she could have a photo session with Davy. I agreed, hoping that we could catch him in just the right mood at the optimal time of day, but you know how babies are…pretty unpredictable sometimes.

That is just me trying to create a little suspense. David loved the camera and the attention and posed like a professional through several outfit changes. He had previously acted bashful around Tricia and Aunt Carol but there was no hint of that during the shoot. I actually think he was showing off for them. I can’t believe how the pictures turned out! Here are a few of my favorites:

Bandanas are so much better than bibs! And perfect for a teething baby who drools everywhere.

The customizable bowties, (reversible!) bandanas, and bloomers you are seeing are available for purchase here. She has a ton of cute fabric options. His guayabera shirt is a hand-me-down from Dominic, originally from Old Navy.

Whatever the camera brought out in this boy he must have gotten from his dad’s side. I was pretty astonished. And it’s so nice to have so many great pictures of him at six months! I’m hoping next time we’re in town Trish will need someone to model her Christmas line. ;)

August California Trip

10 Sep

David and I flew to California on August 23rd to visit my family. My parents had not seen him since he was two months old and it was making me sad so when I heard my older sister was planning a trip to San Diego I booked us an overlapping one. Then my little sister followed suit. (The Dominic effect.) Josh joined us for the second half of our visit before flying home with us.

This is the musician we hired to follow us around playing beautiful melodies on the guitar. Well worth it.

IMG_1889

So glad I brought the real camera this time! My cell phone could not do this.

Yiayia is the reason for the season.

IMG_1917

My dad makes beautiful salads! Here you can see homegrown tomatoes, avocado, radishes, olives and feta.

IMG_1925

David had his first taste of water on the plane and immediately was a fanatic. Which was perfect since it was quite hot in CA!

This is why I love this chair.

IMG_2054

The British Airways jet flew over my parents’ house every evening and was eagerly anticipated. It is a beast.

IMG_2056

I like pictures that show the neighborhood because they are interesting to look at later. Aw, look at Ty’s house all restored. Aw, look at Mom and Aunt Nancy checking out that yellow car.

David: “Oh, there’s that plastic heart I love.”

Robin: “The plastic heart is mine.” David, admiringly: “Okay!” Younger cousin syndrome.

I’m glad I finally got to see the USS Midway Museum. The Midway was the largest ship in the world for ten years and the first warship too big for the Panama Canal. It was decommissioned in 1992 after 47 years of service and now it is sitting in the San Diego Harbor and you can walk all over it and touch everything.

Josh, my mom and I took David and Robin to Scripps Birch Aquarium in La Jolla one day while Stephanie was working.

IMG_2449

Pretty incredible view

IMG_2466

After we meandered through the dark room full of tanks, I think the babies were both ready for naps. Dave had just whacked my mom in the face when this one was taken. (I have proof)

IMG_2471

Robin did not smile in any of them. It’s not her way…

IMG_2483

Just the ladies

Well, that was about a hundred photos. If you’ve made it this far you must really like us.

It was a great trip. David got to know my parents and vice versa, and I’m so glad my brothers and sisters could be there at the same time with their kids! Just wish it could happen every day.

Twilight Dave

11 Aug

The hours between the last nap and bedtime are always tricky. Here is my semi-cranky boy last night, trapped in a laundry basket because he got jealous watching me trap Tom. After deciding he liked being under it, he complained if I removed it.

IMG_1533

IMG_1534

IMG_1535

Going outside is great for cranky babies! We headed to the backyard to keep Josh company as he worked on the cars a little.

IMG_1537

“This was supposed to make me happy?” “Well, I thought–” “WERE you thinking, Mama?”

IMG_1552

“Heh, it IS pretty sunny.”

IMG_1560

“This lady knows her stuff.” To which Mama lovingly replies, “You’ll grow into that head, buddy.”

IMG_1574

He did not complain about how prickly the grass was, but it was sharp and I hated it! So we relocated to the back-back of our SUV to watch Dada more comfortably.

IMG_1595

IMG_1592

IMG_1581

Removing the dealership sticker because Mama is not being paid to advertise around town.

You can really get used to referring to yourself in the third person all the time. Or the second. ;)

IMG_1600

“My mom laughs at her own jokes.”

Then it was finally time to go inside and have dinner and get to bed.

Here are some pictures from today. In the past week or two David has started growling to let us know that he wants something he sees. It started with the Xbox remote, which lights up when you press a button. But now it can be applied to anything and everything. For example, this morning he wanted a coat hanger while I was hanging up clothes. And it’s not just that he wanted one; he WANTED one. He gets crazy eyes. See below.

IMG_1603

Happily sucking on the saline bottle, which he had been growling for.

IMG_1604

Then he started growling at the camera. He is not allowed to hold the camera!

IMG_1609

“Give me that camera.”

Appeased with saline.

IMG_1618

IMG_1620

“Give me that camera.”

IMG_1624

“I need that camera.”

IMG_1625

“Just…move it this way a little.”

IMG_1627

Willing it closer.

All the while growling menacingly, mind you. So I throw the kid a bone!

My Baby Doesn’t Wear Makeup

6 Aug

My camera is just that good.

Just kidding. That doesn’t even make sense. I have been using the camera more lately, and finding tips online about editing in Picasa. Bear with me.

IMG_1355

I think Rosy Cheeks was feverish that evening. I edited out his bottle of lotion!

IMG_1340

This is my view while I’m working. I edited out a person in the field! Lol

“Smiling” at Mother

And this is what happens when he looks at Josh:

IMG_1357

IMG_1358

IMG_1360a

I am loving his Baby Einstein Musical Motion Activity Jumper (a.k.a. the command center) because I can take pictures of him upright instead of lying down. He loves it too, and often it keeps him happy those times when nothing else seems to.  This was his first time being in it:

IMG_1367

IMG_1369

I got out his high chair to see how he liked it, since I think we’ll try solid food in a few weeks. He likes anything that doesn’t make him recline.

IMG_1372

IMG_1376

IMG_1380

Agh! My camera strap :)

More pictures in the command center…these were mostly terrible because of the lighting in the living room, but I thought they were cute anyway.

IMG_1409

IMG_1397

IMG_1413

IMG_1415

We hated having the cat thing there but there’s a nest outside that window and it seemed cruel to move it. I did move it, however. It was just way too prominent.

IMG_1419

IMG_1425

Blue Eyes after a nap the other day:

IMG_1460

The body swaddle is merely occasional these days.

IMG_1462

I got some curtain hooks for his room. They don’t really match, but I like them anyway. The ball is ceramic. And now the curtains look quaint and storybookish when open.

IMG_1457

IMG_1469

I was vacuuming, which was fascinating.

IMG_1473

This is pretty much the entire room. Perfect size for a baby I think. See his hamper?

IMG_1480

Get me out of here, Mama.

IMG_1485

Not as cute

Also, happy birthday to my cute niece Robin. I am ashamed I don’t have her gift ready yet, which I’ve been working on since before she was born.

Crib Talk

6 Jan

Good news, readers! My blog is about to get way better. Are you wondering why? how? Here are three hints:

Ida Canon Rebel

Ida Canon Rebel

Pistachios Canon Rebel

In case you haven’t figured it out, I will be using a real camera instead of my cell phone from now on. 2014 is already a better year!

We finally assembled Baby E’s crib, which a generous friend with a toddler gave to us several months ago. A secondhand crib means ours won’t be the first baby to chew on the railing, but it is in such perfect shape otherwise that I was motivated to look for a DIY solution on Pinterest. As with my cooking, I consolidated several people’s opinions and instructions to make my own plan. This method doesn’t always work with recipes but so far it seems fine for sewing projects.

Chewed crib rail

Busy baby

crib teething guard

I don’t know how well it will stand up to teething, but in the mean time it spruces the place up.

crib teething guard

I will tie better bows after I burn the ends of the ribbon.

It was quite easy to make. You can order these from different places, but making them yourself really only costs the price of the materials—maybe $10?—and if you already have this stuff it is free. Plus I am very picky and I like being able to choose my own colors, etc. Can you tell that I used flannel? Apparently if you use fleece you don’t have to hem it, but I happen to dislike fleece. Flannel with a layer or two of batting is just as soft and cushy, and hems look tidy.

North Dakota 2013-2014

The weather continues charming.
